Historic Kansas City Affiliation:

KCModern is an affiliate group of Historic Kansas City. The partnership seeks to to mutually promote and preserve important historic resources of the modernist movement through outreach, education, and advocacy.

Historic Kansas City's Mission is:

Preserve Buildings. Promote Neighborhoods. Revitalize Kansas City.

Since its founding in 1974, Historic Kansas City (HKC) has been the only greater Kansas City nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of the area’s heritage, neighborhoods and historic built environment. Through advocacy, public policy, outreach and educational programming, HKC is an advocate for, and participant in, the thoughtful and meaningful preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings, landscapes, and neighborhoods. The organization is financed through memberships, corporate and foundation gifts and public grants. HKC maintains a professional staff guided by a Board of Directors.

Our Goals:

To demonstrate the economic and cultural value of preserving the built environment

To preserve endangered buildings of historical, cultural or architectural significance

To promote the continued use of older buildings through conservation, restoration or adaptive reuse in a manner that maintains the integrity of the building’s design and materials

To encourage stabilization and conservation of older neighborhoods

To educate the public about the historical, architectural and cultural heritage of Kansas City’s built environment

To provide opportunities for the public to be actively involved in historic preservation
